Sunday Prayers

Kalgoorlie r2 Date Withthe Devil ; Short enough for a horse with limited ability but draws to get a soft run for Pike in a very moderate maiden. Only has to maintain the level of his first up run to beat these.

Best Bet Kalgoorlie r7 Starry Heights.; Returned to form in the Coolgardie Cup , hitting the line with purpose and just failing to catch Admiration Express . The extra distance looks in his favour to turn the tables and they have a stronger formline than the other fancy Iowa .

Toodyay r3 Apache Blue ; Belmont c3 form should be far superior for Toodyay and he beat home rival Magnificent Carat recently.

Best Bet Belmont r1 Oregan Hiker ; We got him at $9 in a C1 last start where he was too fast for them. Doubt he leads here as there is speed galore but actually think camped on Norich / Smokey Mountain will be perfect. $2.80 is hard to swallow on a Saturday but it is a very thin meeting in general.

Best Bet Belmont r3 Camera Action ; Was keen on her last start but I was put off by the wide draw which can be poison at Kal . Made a mess of them regardless and although this is back in the city she has performed admirably against better opposition than she meets here in the past.

Best Value Belmont r6 Sunny Honey ; Won in this grade / distance 3 starts ago then finished 2 lengths off Russian Sniper & Toropa at her next two in Saturday grade. That is very solid form for a $7 chance in this. The sticking point might be the good ground as her wet form reads more consistent.

Sunday Prayers

Best Bet Northam r4 Muddy Waters; Big form turnaround at career start three when running down The Top Bar in a 3yo OMLY at big odds. His two previous runs he ran last. Think the increase in distance plus race experience was the difference so the extra 100m is ideal . Has to do it on good ground and any leader bias pattern early would cancel the tip .

Weekend Winners (Copy)

Belmont r1 Perfect Chant ; Won both trials by a margin , showing good early toe and kicking away late. Chris Parnham was on in the 2nd one and when she crossed to the rail late she looked much more comfortable. Chris sticks and she has enough speed to hopefully cross straight to the front and take running down on debut.

Belmont r4 Bondi Plunge ; Has always shown glimpses of Saturday ability and her first up win as a 4yo indicated she may be ready to take the next step . Should get every opportunity in the same grade with only 1/2 kg more weight. $2.60 is short enough however I can understand bookies being scared of any Dan Morton runner presently .

Best Bet Belmont r8 Man Crush ; Barrier 1 and no Pulli in the race means he finally gets a chance to lead on his terms. .Under those conditions he is always very hard to catch . Frigid is a nice mare but favourite over 1200m? Hopefully tops off a big day for Chris Parnham and Lucky Duck Tip Followers!

WA Spring Carnival Runners

Rosehill r8 Bustling ; Moved to the Eastern States and already given an Everest Slot , WA’s dominant 2yo from last season has drawn perfectly to either towball Storm Boy into the straight or lead them up if he doesn’t cop too much heat. I couldn’t possibly get involved at the price , he’s WA form is nowhere near this level but if the leaders are dominating then the quinella with Storm Boy is worth consideration. $2 a place under favourable conditions would also be tempting , otherwise happy just to see how he goes towards other targets .

Bunbury Best Bets

Bunbury r3 Pearl King ; Well bred Peters Investment’s 3yo on debut who has shown enough at trials to be competitive in a pretty moderate all age maiden.

Best Bet Bunbury r6 Estimator ; Loves finding the front and setting the tempo. Looks the most likely leader and Brad Parnham is one of the best at rating them out in front. Audrey Grace & Mia Gusto are the two who are most likely to challenge late for quinella players.

Best Value Bunbury r7 More Likely ; Won this track & distance two starts ago . Maps to get a better run than all three runs this prep and I’m very happy to get each way odds on a 30/70 % basis.

Best Bet Belmont r6 Centre Bond ; The first up run caught the eye in a c1 and the run before a spell has form behind it that stacks up very well in this .

Sunday Prayers

Best Bet Kalgoorlie r4 Zing to Win ; Most likely sits leaders back which should be the current favourite Khalida , peels off her back at top of straight and tries to run her down. He has run her down in the past off a tougher run and I wouldn’t be surprised if he jumps favourite.

Kalgoorlie r7 Admiration Express ; Quality mare who is getting closer and closer to a win. Beat all her main rivals home last start when caught on the line and I think she will get the right run close to the speed and return to the winners stall.

Weekend Winners

Best Bet Belmont r3 Arcadia Park ; Good run on debut behind a talented type and then absolutely no luck next start . Pike jumps on and while $2.05 for a 2 start maiden in a Saturday 3yo SWP doesn’t scream value , there are only 2 winners ( 1 ea) in a pretty limited field and it maps to get a great run.

Belmont r7 Toropa ; She is 4/4 and her first 3 wins indicated she has a very bright future. She has had a little freshen up since her last win which was more workmanlike and I expect her to take care of these despite it being a slightly harder test.

SPRING CARNIVAL WATCH ;

Randwick r9 Amelia’s Jewel ; She is dynamic fresh and no doubt will be ready to rock at her first start in a campaign where we find out if she still wants to be a racehorse. A dry track and 1400m are big ticks and if she’s back to her best she beats these and is back in business. I think she will.

Moonee Valley r8 Showmanship ; I’m adamant this 9yo was going to be a superstar before a serious injury held him back a couple of years. He showed he still has a zest for racing last start , with a win in a decent enough form race. Reportedly his jump out since was brilliant and I’ll be having something on each way if he faces the starter. Although he is 5/5 on Good tracks , he is usually scratched and saved for wet tracks due to his injury history.

Wednesday Winners

Belmont r2 The Top Bar / Gold Maker; The Top Bar won easily last start despite working deep without cover. Maps to control this from the front and will take running down. Gold Maker put in two flashing light runs then was held up at a crucial stage last time Drawn out he will sit back and hit the line. They are paying enough to back both . SRM The Top Bar Top 2 , Gold Maker Top 3.

Best Value Belmont r3 Oregan Hiker ; Run was as good as the winner who was a short priced favourite first up considering he made his run down the “wrong” side of the Pinjarra Straight and the winner hugged the outside rail. If he can replicate that effort around a bend then he looks a solid each way bet.

Wednesday Winners

Best Bet Belmont r1 Gi Gi Pops ; Won her 1400m maiden in quick time , kicking on the corner and only tiring very late when in no danger. Considering she was 2nd up and rising 200m , she should be even stronger this time. Our Existence is the only other winner in the field . He might be coming late but confident she holds him at bay and it means if you shop around you can still get even money. Very confident in this one.

Belmont r3 Sinful Living ; Promising filly who won 2 early 2yo races and competed in some of the feature events. The trial suggested she has come back well enough to be highly competitive in a midweek winter c3 , 59kgs for a early 3yo filly no easy task.

Weekend Winners

The Belmont meeting is in serious doubt with a heavy 8 surface predicted to be smashed with more wild weather before and during the races. I have done the form in case but would not be betting until at least after scratchings in the morning . Whatever the outcome it will be a very tough day so hard to bet with confidence. Proceed at your own risk!

Best Bet Belmont r1 Gold Maker ; Crying out for 1200m and possibly further , he should be strong late on a very heavy track which he is bred to handle. The favourite Shmoov Moover looks very smart at trials but debuting over 1200m on a heavy track is a big ask , he would want to be very fit .

Best Value Belmont r4 Canny Jack ; Surprised first up at 100 to 1 when missing by a head . He is a two time heavy track winner and although he is only $18 this time , handling the conditions today is a big advantage.

Belmont r5 Defferred ; Undefeated this campaign , all on wet tracks and she just gets stronger and stronger. This is no harder and while it’s hard to bet on a even money pop in these conditions , I expect her to justify it.

Belmont r7 SoSo Lucky ; She has been so impressive at her first two starts , finishing with a wet sail to win effortlessly , the latest against the pattern of the day. Harder race but still no stars and she will get through the ground.

Broome r7 Awesome Chatter ; Got no favors in the Pt Hedland Cup but was still too strong. There is even more pressure in this with a stack of on pace free running types engaged. Hoping Mcgruddy sits just off them this time and he can be the strongest late. Harder race but we are getting a better price.

Pinny Punts

Best Roughie Pinjarra r2 Magali Magic ; Is a half sister to talented , multiple Saturday winning 4yo Rope Them In. Only had the 1 trial when finishing 6 length 3rd to yesterdays winner The Top Bar . Showed great pace there and although well beaten she stuck to the inferior inside ground and beat the rest home by a margin. Straight to 1200m on debut off 1 trial is unconventional and a big question mark however we don’t have to have much on at $31 just in case.

Best Bet Pinjarra r3 Pharoah Show ; Debuted in very similar conditions when running on late into 3rd . The form out of that race stacks up very well vs today’s rivals. Two major concerns are barrier 1 ; if they are getting out wide like last time then it’s a big negative . 2 ; Coming back 100m , considering he was running on late first up. I suggest watching race 2 and if the winners head to the outside fence then there’s no point backing a $2.30 pop drawn 1 , fair track and it’s game on.

Wednesday Winners

Best Bet Belmont r1 Star Supreme ; The trial on soft ground indicated above average ability . Always tough to debut against race experienced animals but class takes her a long way.

Belmont r7 Mr Talentino ; Record suggests he loves wet tracks and last start he won easily . Runs prior against better stayers were good enough to be very competitive.

Best Value Belmont r8 Kerman Rock ; Narrowly beaten this track distance and grade first up and that was the first time he had placed in 7 first up runs. While he was $41 that day , $7.50 today , his 2nd up record reads better . He beat Covert Rose home comfortably that day and the winner won again Saturday.

Weekend Winners

Best Quinella Belmont r2 NO’s 1 & 4 ; Ginnivan is a jump n run speedster who thrives on high pressure racing and he is drawn inside the other speed influences. Songaa run him down first up and will be charging home again from her wide draw. Both like the wet so it comes down to if the track favours leaders or swoopers. Hopefully it’s fair and we can get the quinella. Sophia’s Symphony has the ability to spoil the party but is off a setback with obvious feet issues.

Best Bet Belmont r5 Queen Of Jerusalem ; Was more confident last week but she was simply given way too much to do with 60kgs and couldn’t sustain the long searching run . From barrier 1 I’m hoping she can settle a touch closer and being a staying race she still should be able to get to the outside if required. Loves the wet and certainly wont be lacking in fitness.

Best @ Bunbury

Best Bet Bunbury r4 Hell’s City ; Very even maiden and usually these races are won by the horse who gets the best run. He is drawn to get every possible , likes soft ground and there is enough confidence in the SoSo Lucky form reference to suggest he can go close on an each way basis.

Sunday Prayers

Best Bet Port Hedland r7 Awesome Chatter ; Everything in this bar Our Norman has been beaten convincingly by the favourite recently . Norman is having his first run on dirt and jumping quickly in distance. Surprised we are getting black figures and happy to have a decent bet here.

  • The winter tracks are really struggling , both Belmont Wednesday and Northam Thursday were extreme bias to the outside fence. With it being a little drier Saturday and the rail changing from 20m to 8m , who knows what it will throw up. We can only watch the first few races and judge it from there. Rather than looking for horses to take advantage of any bif ias that appears , I prefer just to not bet .

Best Bet Belmont r6 Queen Of Jerusalum ; Should be undefeated last 4 and it’s hard to see what could threaten her in this other than bad luck. Manzor Magic at least brings some alternate form if she happened to not perform and you wanted a little saver.

Belmont r9 Ice Pick Nick ; 2nds behind Rope em In and Stormchaser are very good form references for this. Drawn to stalk a hot speed behind horses suspect at 1200m , $4 looks generous.

Northam Numbers

Best Value Northam r7 Lucky Lily ; First up, won her maiden impressively from the back over 1000m. Never going to win 2nd up but thought it finished off ok. Steps up to 1300m today and it ran a close 3rd over 1200m last campaign to indicate it should suit. The favourite is way too short in my opinion so $9 each way is the bet. It was $18 before the important scratching .
