Pinjarra r1 Frantic War ; Is the track & distance specialist in the field , with his last 3 starts all being here for a win and 2 2nds. That was in maiden grade and now he goes to a c3 and still rises 2kgs which is a real head scratcher. $2 is pretty skinny but at the same time there are only 3 realistic chances in a field of 6 and the other two are only paying $3. Hoping the race fitness , outside barrier and straight track experience help him go back to back . I will say it’s probably a no bet race for most however seeing as he’s our horse I will experiment with the novelties.

Quinella & Exacta ; 2 , 1 & 3 . (Frantic has to win for exacta , finish 1st or 2nd behind one of the other 2 for quinella) Equal stake on each.

Best Bet Pinjarra r2 Super Snippy ; If Frantic War gets the job done as a $2 favourite in r1 then logically $2.90 for a horse that has finished on his heels at his only 2 starts seems value. Unfortunately that didn’t work out at Albany on Friday with the 3rd placegetter but with straight track experience and the 3kg claim he is clearly the horse to beat. Outfield hasn’t trialed since October but the market has him a very close 2nd favourite and Chris Parnham has taken the ride . Very wary.

Pinjarra r7 Vast Art ; 2/4 this prep and the 2 misses were at Ascot , suggesting he prefers the roomier tracks and they weren’t terrible runs either. Also looks to be appreciating getting out to a mile if last start is anything to go by , easily his best win. This is harder but he’s got the upside to cope.

Best Bet Ascot r2 Mantelli ; Hasn’t won since the 21st Nov 21 . He does boast plenty of places to city class horses however. The two 3yo’s in Marmooga and Ex Sport Girl have more upside but are coming from inferior form references . He’s no good thing but goes around as my best bet due to the value in the $4.40 .

Best Value Ascot r9 All In Red ; Put the writing on the wall 2 starts ago , running into 3rd and the form has been franked. Had no hope from the wide barrier last time and still ran on well. Gets a soft run on the fence from barrier 1 , with some luck in running she can figure late with the light weight at $15 each way.

Albany Analysis

Best Bet Albany r1 Antique Miss ; Frantic War form simply must stack up in an Albany maiden. She was on debut there and although was under pressure she stuck to her guns and come again late , only beaten 1/2 a length . On that run you would imagine the slightly softer tempo of 1200m is ideal and she is drawn to hopefully box seat , otherwise lead them up. Another short price fav which hasn’t been very fruitful lately but I’m pretty confident here.

Geraldton r3 Whole Lotta Tasha ; Not a tip , just an update on our own runner. While she is unlikely to figure today it’s important to remember she has only had 2 starts and both had genuine excuses. Has been going much better in between runs at home . Today is an important stepping stone for her future and we are hoping for an improved showing. $13 a place is not the worst bet in the world with a senior going on but it’s all about the long term at the moment.

Best Bet Geraldton r4 Ask An Angel ; In a rare coincidence she is a half sister to Tasha . Doing little in the metro area she has come of age in the midwest as a 4/5yo winning 4 of her last 5 . Each time they raise the bar she answers and she is the reason we still have faith in Whole Lotta Tasha if given time . Quite obviously she has feet issues as her runs have been spaced and she has pads on but first up last time she had the dreaded bar plates on and still won. She has had a trial in between and lost the rider so we are putting a fair bit of faith in her . Bake Some Maybe’s is going well at the provincials without winning , while this is easier I prefer the winning strike rate Angel possesses .

Geraldton r5 Iht’s Closing Inn ; Confident it is the best horse in the race , it’s definitely the one with the most upside . Trusting ZJP to slot in somewhere near the back and have last crack at them. She looks hard to hold out with the 3kg claim making life easier.

Geraldton r7 Mocha Dream ; While he has a task from the horror gate , he overcome a similar scenario last start and the extra 100m is in his favor.

With the two Durrant runners being pretty skinny , I suggest a system 2/3 with the 3 tips. If two win it’s a return , all 3 is a fill up. If the first 2 lose then a decision to try and get square can be made on the last one.

Best Bet Ascot r4 Major Max ; 3yo who has won 3/6 plus two 2nds . Only defeat this campaign was against a track bias and the two wins have been soft. Is versatile as can be ridden forward or back . This is a step up but is progressive enough to handle it.

Best Roughie Ascot r7 Truevinsky ; The trick to these 3yo staying races is finding one that will definitely stay. Truevinsky has been taking on the older horses in lowly rated races , running 3 2nds at Narrogin and York with 60.5 , 61.5 kgs. In between he’s run 3rd to today’s equal favourite Another Chino beaten 1.5 lengths despite a torrid run. Drops to 54kgs , is rock hard fit and we’re getting $51 compared to $3.10 . Goes in all novelties with the two favourites and quaddie.

Best Bet Geraldton r4 Iht’s Closing Inn ; He beat stablemate Paris Petard convincingly in January and today meets him considerably better at the weights thanks to the claim for ZJP. Similarly , Miss Eugene’s current form is strong enough to challenge but can it give the fav 4.5 kgs and beat it? Iht maps for the run of the race.

Geraldton r6 Pop The Moet ; No star but when he finds the front and is allowed to run he generally takes some catching as was the case 2 starts ago when he didn’t look like being beaten. Drawn for that scenario and his each way odds mean we can make a profit on a 25/75 % basis even if he clings on to 3rd. Mocha Dream the obvious but odds on from the carpark , back 300m in trip isn’t an appealing betting proposition.

Ascot r1 Sir Mambo & Some Sort ; Thinking Some Sort kicks through from barrier 1 , Sir Mambo comes across and parks outside. As long as the two apprentice’s don’t go to war too early it’s hard to see the others getting past. The market is struggling to separate them and so am I. With both paying over $3 it is possible to back both equally for a profit. The other option is the quinella with the risk one of the two fail to perform up to expectations.

Best Bet Ascot r8 Baby Paris ; Brilliant filly who flies fresh. Takes on some seasoned tough open class horses in a race with hectic speed. The outside draw is not ideal , with only 52kgs I’m hoping they go forward but sit a length or so back , if it’s 3 wide so be it and pounce on straightening. Massive test first up but on a very tough program she is my best of the day. Unlike the midweek winners , confidence is not as high so stake accordingly.

Last start he won a brutally run Oakleigh Plate at just start 8 . Maps to get the right run , the danger looks to be the runner up from the Oakleigh in Asfoora.

Best Bet Albany r4 Brave Contender ; Gave Artie’s Comet windburn when getting a split in the Mt Barker Cup , was cruelly denied a repeat when hopelessly blocked all the way to the line next start. Little separating the two and The Great One form or market wise. The distance and positive jockey change are key factors.

Best Bet Belmont r2 Becalotti ; Debut run was full of merit , making good ground from the back into 2nd behind a winner who won again Sunday. Drawn to get a better run than the favourite .

Belmont r6 Maktastic ; Two runs in WA indicate he can win a few staying races over here . Has done a power of work in both and fought on strongly. Step up in trip suits , hopefully can get a more economical run . Apprentice only races can get messy , having one of the leading locals on is an advantage.

Best Bet Morphettville r9 Taunting ; WA’s Chris Parnham heads over with veteran stayer Stafford’s Lad in the cup and we wish connections the best of luck but it’s his pick up ride in the last that we’re keen to follow. With the likes of Harvey and Pike stalking her on the main dangers , I’m thinking we will have the rosary beads out last 150m but it is a Sunday Prayer ! Saving on Guard The Safe .

Best Bet Ascot r6 Spirit Man ; Dropping in grade and drawn to get a lovely run on the back of the speed. If blinkers on first time even finds an extra length then he is clearly the one to beat. Kings Flirt run her race before the start last time . If she jumps cleanly and crosses she is the quinella / back up horse.

Best Bet Ascot r5 Let’s Deal ; Was going nowhere until stepped up in trip , then smacked a weak country field and backed it up by running past Casino Seventeen . If that horse is a legitimate $2.10 hope in today’s Bunbury Cup then you would think the same price here is generous.

Ascot r7 Creator ; Great win first up , should of won second up , coming from last on an on speed dominated day through traffic to run 2nd. Draw , weight and distance give him a great chance at redemption. If Burnya to Survive runs up to his best level he probably wins. Nothing wrong with his last run under the circumstances but a bar plate remains on , too good to leave out of the quaddie.

Best Bet Pinjarra r1 Laquetta’s Gift ; The narrow 2nd to Feel’s Playful is far superior form to what she meets here. The 3kg claim allows her to carry less weight than her lesser performed rivals. Very hard to beat under those circumstances.

Pinjarra r2 Frantic War ; Knocking the door down to win a race , finds a very winnable race. Replicates any of his 3 runs this campaign and he simply beats these. Fingers crossed he sits just off them and powers away the last 100m and Lucky Ducks are back in the winners circle.

Best Bet York r1 Tahitian Pearl ; A 2nd to Supersession , beaten under 2 lengths is ridiculous form for a York maiden. That horse has won 2 graduation Saturday races since and would start 1.01 in this field. She was 100s that day herself due to uninspiring trials and debut but if she can reproduce the Belmont run then she goes very close to winning. Hard to invest heavily but $4.60 (365) is juicy enough to have a bet.
